List of all Nigerian Head of States Presidents (Past – Present)

A listing of all the Nigerian head of States/Presidents before Nigeria gained independence and after Nigeria had gotten independence are listed on this page.

Before independence, Nigeria operated on the colonial system of governorship while after independence Nigeria embraced a Federal system of government after the amalgamation of the country by Lord Fredrick Lugard leading to the 36 States in present day Nigeria.

In 1960 the first head of State was Queen Elizabeth II a monarch of the United Kingdom. The Queen of England was represented in Nigeria by what is called a Governor General.

Thereafter, in 1963, Nigeria became a republic and the administration of government of the monarch and the Governor General were replaced by a ceremonial president.

Without further ado, here is a listing of all the Nigerian Presidents or Head of States from past to present.
